The Challenge: Helping Senior Leaders Find a Specialist Executive Coach with GEO & SEO

Generative engine optimisation (GEO) – sometimes called answer engine optimisation (AEO) – is the work of making a business easier for AI search tools such as ChatGPT and Gemini to understand, cite and recommend. This case study reports the Google and AI search visibility recorded for a specialist executive coach after building and launching a new website for the practice.

Our client coaches senior leaders in pharmaceutical and life sciences, industrial and manufacturing, and construction and infrastructure. Executive coaching is a crowded market, and the coach’s name is a competitive search term in its own right. Starting with one inbound link, the new website had to make the practice’s sector experience clear to the people most likely to value it.

Keyword research exposed a harder problem: the sector-qualified coaching terms we tested showed no measurable search volume. The site needed to work for a different kind of search – a buyer asking AI search tools like ChatGPT and Gemini to recommend a coach who understands their sector.

The Outcome: New Executive Coaching Enquiries and Visitors From ChatGPT

The client reports that the new website is now generating executive coaching enquiries, and ChatGPT is sending visitors directly to the site. In a one-day October 2026 benchmark, ChatGPT and Gemini also named the coach first in 10 of 14 responses.

The Solution: An Executive Coaching Website for GEO & SEO

We designed and produced an 11-page Squarespace website from scratch: structure, page design, copywriting, imagery, internal linking, SEO and optimisation for AI search. Each page was built around a distinct audience need, search purpose or area of expertise.

  • Sector Pages That Put the Coach First in Life Sciences

We built the site around the coach’s buyers: senior leaders in three sectors, across five UK locations. Each of the 11 pages has a clear job, giving search engines and AI tools a consistent picture of who the coach works with, in which sectors and where.

The life sciences page shows the result. It is second only to the homepage for clicks from Google, and both ChatGPT and Gemini named the coach first when asked for an executive coach who understands pharmaceutical and life sciences leadership.

Copywriting That Gets the Coach Found in AI Answers

AI tools need clear, attributable information before they can accurately describe or cite specialist expertise. We created the copywriting in a style reflective of the coach’s voice for prospective clients, while simultaneously making the credentials, sector experience and services easy to identify in AI answers.

Links to relevant published work gave the sector pages supporting evidence for the expertise described.

Benchmarking That Shows Where AI Recommends the Practice

We submitted the website to Google and confirmed that all 11 pages were indexed. In October 2026, we benchmarked the site in ChatGPT and Gemini using seven buyer-style questions that did not name the coach.

Every response was reviewed manually. We recorded whether the coach appeared and which sources the tools cited. The coach was named first in 11 of 14 responses. The benchmark provides a baseline for tracking future changes.

The Results: An AI Visibility Snapshot & New Executive Coaching Enquiries

Across 14 responses to seven buyer-style questions asked in ChatGPT and Gemini, the coach appeared in 11 and was named first in 10. Almost every response cited the coach’s own website, drawing on the homepage, about page, sector pages and location pages. Over the past three months, the website also received visits referred directly from ChatGPT, showing that AI recommendations are sending people to the site, not just naming it. The client now reports receiving enquiries for executive coaching through the website.

Average Google Position For a Core Local Query

On the location page for the city where the coach has the strongest professional ties, searches for ‘executive coach’ plus the city name averaged position 4.6 over three months

Described Accurately, Sourced from the Coach’s Own Site

When asked about the coach by name, both tools gave accurate descriptions, cited the coach’s own website and did not confuse the client with other people of the same name. The descriptions closely followed the website’s positioning, including the target sectors and senior industry background.

Sector Pages Reaching a Hidden Audience

Keyword tools showed no measurable search volume for sector-specific coaching terms, but the sector pages are finding a real audience. Over three months, the pharmaceutical and life sciences page earned 933 Google impressions, and the site ranks first for searches such as ‘executive coaching life sciences’. In the October benchmark, AI tools also recommended the coach for all three target sectors.

Google Search Visibility: All 11 pages were indexed by Google. Over the three-month Search Console period, the five location pages generated 3,798 impressions in Google Search, led by the strongest page with 1,575. A second location page also achieved first-page visibility for its main search.

The site launched with one inbound link. The results are consistent with the site’s structure and copy contributing to visibility, alongside the coach’s existing experience and wider web presence.

Bottom Line:

Specialist expertise matters only when the right people can find and understand it. This project made the executive coach’s sector positioning visible in both Google Search and AI answers: in the October 2026 benchmark, the coach appeared in 11 of 14 responses and was named first in 10. The client now reports receiving executive coaching enquiries through the website.
